FOLLOW THE ADVICE OF THE NEW
FOOD GUIDE PYRAMID


Become nutrition smart by following the new food
guide pyramid  which has been updated and it now
looks like the one at right. This new food guide
pyramid is an outline of what foods to eat each day
based on the dietary recommendations of the U.S.
Government. It helps you to become more nutrition
smart about what is best for your daily diet.

The new food guide pyramid calls for eating a variety of foods so you get the healthy nutrients you need in your body everyday. That is being nutrition smart. At  the same time you should be getting the right amount of calories to be sure you maintain a healthy weight condition. Watch the video now.

Use the new food guide pyramid to help you be nutrition smart so you eat better everyday by following these  guidelines. Start with plenty of breads, cereals, rice, pasta, vegetables and fruits. Add 2-3 servings from the milk group and 2-3 servings from the meat group. Remember to go easy on fats, oils, and sweets. Just be nutrition smart about the food you eat by following the .new food guide pyramid and you'll become healthier.

The various colors the new food guide pyramid has designated are for certain food groups.


Orange (Grains)

The new food guide pyramid says any food made from wheat, rice, oats, cornmeal, barley or another cereal grain is a grain product. Bread, pasta, oatmeal, breakfast cereals, tortillas, and grits are examples of grain products.


Green (Vegetables)

Any vegetable or 100% vegetable juice counts as a member of the vegetable group.Vegetables may be raw or cooked, fresh,frozen, canned or dried or dehydrated; and may be whole, cut-up, or mashed.

Vegetables are organized in five subgroups, based on their nutient content. The five subgroups are: dark green vegetables, orange vegetables, dry beans and peas, starchy vegetables and other vegetables.


Red (Fruits)

Any fruit or 100% fruit juice counts as part of the fruit group says the new food guide pyramid. Fruits may be fresh, dried or frozen, and may be whole, cut-up, or pureed.


BLUE (Milk)

All fluid milk products and many foods made from milk ara considered part of this food group. Foods made from milk that retain their calcium content are part of the group, while foods made from milk that have little to no calcium, such as cream cheese, cream and butter are not. Most milk group choices should be fat-free or low-fat.


Dark Blue (Meat and Beans)

All foods made from meat, poultry,fish, dry beans and nuts, and seeds are considered part of this group. Make sure you study the new food guide pyramid thoroughly to become more nutition smart about what you eat.

HEALTHY FOOD IS NOT THE ONLY ANSWER

Now if you want to be really nutrition smart you must know food alone does not supply your body with all the healthy nutrients you need. You must also add additional nutritional  supplements to your body everyday.  (You can learn more about this later in my Ecourse).

Here are some other important things you need to know about the various kinds of food to be become as nutrition smart as you possibly can. The healhiest fruits and vegetables and meats should be purchased in organic supermarkets. Here's the reason. Because fruits and vegetables raised in other enviroments are usually sprayed with harmful insecticides and grown in poor treated soils, they are not as healthy and safe to eat.

WISE FOOD PURCHASING IS VERY IMPORTANT

Meats of all kinds are not healthy to eat when produced on factory farms. Those types of farms raise their animals in confined quarters and because of that all these animals must get hormone injections and antibiotic drugs to keep them alive and healthy. This includes any beef cattle, pigs and chickens.  Eating these meat products with the chemicals that are injected into them are also dangerous and harmful to the human body.  It is not being nutrition smart to consume these products.

Chickens that are also raised on factory farms are usually caged and not free to roam so even their eggs are not healthy either. Since many are confined in cages with many other chickens they also need to get hormone injections and antibiotic drugs too. When buying eggs in any food market, make sure the information on the carton reads: "cage free, no hormones or antibiotics."  (Our Ecourse has a shocking video about "factory farming " that decribes these methods of operation) Here is when you really need to get nutrtion smart.

Here is another tip for being nutrition smart. It's what you  should know when  buying fish too. Fish that is wild caught is much healthier than farm-raised fish. Farm-raised fish are just as unhealthy as the meat products that are  raised on factory farms. And even though fish is a recommended food and mercury is not totally healthy for your body, small amounts of mercury are not a great concern for you if you eat the smaller variety of fish. The smaller the fish the less mercury it contains. 

TRUST ME

Now if you believe all of this information above about being nutrition smart is foolish, let me emphasize that it is not. Today the greed for larger profits seems to have become more important than concern for other people's health. But Years ago, in my generation, there wasn't as much need to be as nutrition smart like today. This is because fruits, vegetables and meat products were produced much healthier back then. Noboby needed to know much about what nutrition smart meant then.

There weren't any factory farms during those times.  I don't even remember any farm-raised fish back then either. Fish was generally wild caught. And even though business people were anxious to earn a good profit then, there wasn't the greediness like you find today.

People were more concious about other people's welfare. Also there wasn't any organic supermarkets years ago, just the regular grocery stores and farmer's markets which you could expect to have healthy food. Healthy nutrients  were recommended then but not to the degree they are today.
